Queen Mary 2 is an excellent personal steamer. With 150,000 GRT, it is the largest, longest (345 m), tallest (72 m higher than the Statue of Liberty) and the most magnificent ship ever built for the Cunard Line. 2,620 passengers can be accommodated in fourteen stylish and luxuriously equipped decks with a crew of 1,253 people. With its long, sleek hull and powerful engines (max. 29 knots), it was specially designed for overseas travel; from Europe (Southampton, England) to North America (New York) in six days. The Queen Mary 2 concept was created in May 1998. After another two years of development, in November 2000, it was ordered by a French shipyard and handed over to Cunard Line on December 22, 2003. After overwintering in the Caribbean in April 2004, the ship entered regular transatlantic service. Queen Mary 2 continued the tradition of North Atlantic travel, thus continuing the era of ocean travel, which was already considered over.
