Piracy casts a spell on people to this day. Who doesn't know the stories of the 16th to 18th centuries, when illegal pirates committed mischief, especially in the Caribbean and on the coast of South America. They insidiously attacked the ships in search of gold, silver and coins, to disappear again under the veil of darkness. The pirates kept their prey in a safe haven on one of the many small hidden islands. There they also took refuge from the warships of the Spaniards, British and Portuguese. The pirates had their own laws.
