Template information:
The Panavia Tornado is a family of twin-engine, changeable wing geometry multi-role fighters, jointly developed and manufactured in Italy, the United Kingdom and West Germany. There are three primary variants of the Tornado: the IDS fighter-bomber (interdictor / strike), the Tornado ECR enemy air defense suppression (electronic combat / reconnaissance) and the Tornado ADV fighter (air defense variant).
Electronic Combat / Reconnaissance (ECR), operated by Germany and Italy, is a Tornado variant dedicated to enemy air defense missions (SEADs). It was first delivered on May 21, 1990. ECR has sensors to detect radar use and is equipped with AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles. The Italian Tornado differs from Luftwaffe aircraft in that it lacks built-in reconnaissance capabilities and uses RecceLite reconnaissance pads. Furthermore, only ECR engines from the Luftwaffe are equipped with the RB199 Mk.105 engine, which has a higher traction power. The Germans do not have a cannon. The RAF used a version of IDS in the role of SEAD instead of ECR and also modified several of its Tornado F.3s to take on missions.
