The Boeing B-29 Superfortress is an American four-engine piston-powered heavy bomber used by the US Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. The name was given in reference to its predecessor - the B-17 Flying Fortress and was designed for high-altitude strategic bombing, but also excelled at night bombing with low-altitude incendiary bombs or dropping naval mines during the blockade of Japan. The B-29 also dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which contributed to the end of World War II.

It was one of the largest aircraft that were used in combat operations. It had the most advanced technology of the time, including a pressurized cabin, a three-track retractable landing gear, and an analog computer fire control system that allowed one shooter and a fire control officer to directly control four turrets. The advanced design allowed the B-29 to remain in service in various roles throughout the 1950s. The type was scrapped in the early 1960s after 3,970 pieces were produced. The B-29 was the forerunner of Boeing's range of bombers, transport aircraft, flying tankers, reconnaissance aircraft and training aircraft.
