Template information:
The Supermarine Spitfire was a British single-seat fighter serving in the RAF and other Allied air forces during World War II. The aircraft, together with the Hurricanes, formed the basis of the British Fighter Air Force during the Battle of Britain.
MK.VI had many similarities to the Mk.VB model, but differed in the presence of a special high-altitude ventilation cabin type, in which a constant pressure was maintained, as well as increased wingspan (HF version with elongated, almost triangular wings). It was powered by a Merlin 47o engine with a capacity of 1415 liters. A characteristic feature of this modification was the absence of a flap on the left side of the cockpit, which facilitated boarding (such flaps, often on both sides, were a common technical solution in the 1930s, because the fuselages and especially the cockpit boarding holes were very narrow) and removable, stationary, middle part of the lamp. The propeller - metal, four - bladed, with a variable inclination from the company Rotol was also used in modifications Mk.VII, VIII, IX, XVI, PR.X and XI. It was built only in a small series (97 aircraft). Deliveries of these aircraft to the Royal Air Force began in February 1942.
