Template information:
Messerschmitt Me 410 Hornisse (hornet) was a German fighter, developed as another successor to the Bf 110. The aircraft was based on the failed type Me 210, but unlike it had stronger engines and a longer fuselage. The first machines reached the units in January 1943, where they replaced mainly types Do 217. They were first used over England as night fighters, then served in the Mediterranean and on the Eastern Front. From 1944, they began to replace the Bf 110 in Zerstörer units, which were designed to defend Germany from Allied bombers.
The reconnaissance version had cameras in the bomb bay and no weapons. The Me 410 A-1 version served as a fighter and light bomber, and the A-1 / U4 version was armed with a 50 mm cannon. Since 1944, the armament of 210 mm missiles was used and some types had a six-barreled missile in the bomb bay. Overall, the machine did not particularly outperform its predecessor, the Bf 110, and so production was terminated in 1944, with a total of over 1,100 units. Interestingly, the cannons on the side of the fuselage were solved - touch breakers interrupted the firing at the moment when they were mainly aimed at some part of the fuselage.
