Template information:
A129 Mongoose is the first European attack helicopter. It has several original design aspects, such as the first helicopter to use a fully computerized integrated system. Parts of the flight and weapons system are monitored and directly controlled by on-board computers. The A129 shares considerable design similarities with Agusta's earlier A109 auxiliary helicopter. The rear of the A129 was derived from the A109 and incorporated into a brand new front section. The A129 fuselage is highly angled and armored for ballistic protection, the composite rotor blades are also able to withstand the impact of firing from a 23 mm cannon. The crew of two men, consisting of a pilot and a shooter, sits in a conventional tandem cockpit.
Ap9 can be used in anti-armor, armed reconnaissance, ground attack, escort, fire support and anti-aircraft roles. The helicopter can use various weapons for the anti-missile mission, such as up to eight Hellfire missiles. As an air-to-air role, the FIM-92 Stinger rocket was certified for use in 2003. The A129 can also be equipped with 81 mm or 70 mm (2.75 in) diameter mineral rockets; The M197 three-barreled cannon with a diameter of 20 mm is also installed on the Oto Melara TM-197B nasal turret. In 2014, Spike-ER, a fourth-generation anti-tank missile, was added to the A129 arsenal.
