The Traction Avant model has almost become fatal for the Citroën brand. In the end, it was manufactured for over twenty years and paved the way for the legendary DS model. The Citroën Traction Avant was developed at the turn of 1933 and 1934 under the guidance of experienced engineers. The biggest attraction of this model was its propulsion concept, thanks to which it was the first truly mass-produced car with front-wheel drive in the world.
It had a self-supporting all-metal body, which, however, its exterior design did not deviate from the customs of the time. The transfer of the entire power unit to the front of the body, which virtually eliminated the continuous center tunnel, contributed to a significant reduction in the construction height of the body, but also the center of gravity, which had a positive effect on driving stability. Most of the cars had four-door bodies. In smaller numbers, two-door coupes and convertibles were also created, as well as limousines with an extended wheelbase and three rows of seats.
The basic engine was a small four-cylinder with a capacity of 1,303 cc, but during 1934 it was supplemented by engines with an output of 1,529, respectively. 1 628 ccm.
