Template information:
The Lockheed SR-71, known as the "Blackbird" and nicknamed Habu among the crews, was an American twin-engine jet strategic reconnaissance aircraft. It was developed during the 1960s as part of an unpublished, so-called black project. It was built as a development type of the A-12 OXCART reconnaissance aircraft by Lockheed and its Skunk Works division. US aeronautical engineer Clarence Johnson has become responsible for most design innovations.
A characteristic feature was the high flight speed above 3 Ma at high altitudes, which found itself outside the range of threats during reconnaissance missions. When detecting the activation of the anti-aircraft missile defense, the standard procedure was a simple escape from the missile, for which an increase in speed was enough. The surface of the structure was designed with a reduced reflective area of radar radiation.
In 1964-1998, the aircraft served in the United States Air Force. The total production reached 32 pieces, of which 12 were destroyed in accidents and no machine was lost during a clash with the enemy. The SR-71 has held the record as the fastest manned aircraft since July 28, 1976, when it surpassed the older development type Lockheed YF-12. The measured speed was 3.29 Ma (3,529.6 km / h).
